PURPOSES OF THE COMPETITION
Identify and promote young talented pianists, support and encourage the harmonious development of their art skills; preserve the heritage of the world performing art schools and raise the status of music in society; focus the attention of young generations on cultural and social values, as well as develop and strengthen international cultural relations.
PARTICIPANTS
The Competition is open to young pianists of all nationalities and is held in three
age groups:
– junior group – 8 to 12 years old (born between March 28, 2006 and March 27, 2011);
– middle group – 13 to 16 years old (born between March 28, 2002 and March 27, 2006);
– senior group – 17 to 22 years old (born between March 28, 1996 and March 27, 2002).
Pianists who have reached the age of 12 or 16 at the time of the Competition may opt to participate in the older age group.
STAGES OF THE COMPETITION
The Competition will consist of three stages:
First stage – Video Screening (November 1 to 15, 2018);
Second stage – Preliminary Auditions at different locations around the world (November 21, 2018 to February 28, 2019);
Third stage – Competition Auditions: Recital round and Finals with orchestra held at the International Performing Arts Centre in Moscow (March 27 to 31, 2019).
APPLICATIONS
To apply for the Competition it is necessary to fill in the application form on www.krainevcompetition.com not later than 31 October, 2018 and upload a video recording for the Video Screening stage. Along with the video recording it is required to include the following documents:
– a passport copy of the participant (participants over 14 years old) or a birth certificate copy (in jpg format);
– an artistic biography of the participant (in doc format);
– a portrait photograph of the participant (in jpg format);
Applications received after 12 p.m. 31 October, 2018 will not be considered.
All text materials are accepted in Russian or/and English.
The video recordings sent without all the required documents listed above will not be taken into consideration.
COMPETITION and SELECTION PROCESS
- All applications are reviewed by the Organizing Committee in a confidential manner. The Organizing Committee reserves the right to request additional information from candidates.
- During the Video Screening stage from November 1 to November 15, 2018 a special commission will examine all submitted applications and videos. After the Video Screening stage no more than 200 participants will be admitted to the Preliminary Auditions. The Organizing Committee will inform all applicants about the results no later than November 15, 2018.
- Preliminary Auditions are open to the public and will be held between November 21 and February 28, 2019 in eight cities:
- Moscow, Russian Federation
- Saint Petersburg, Russian Federation
- Novosibirsk, Russian Federation
- London, United Kingdom
- Imola, Italy
- Pyongyang, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea
- Beijing, People’s Republic of China
- Tokyo, Japan
In case of large number of applicants from other countries the Organizing Committee reserves the right to change the location of the Preliminary Auditions. The Organizing Committee determines the dates and venues for the Preliminary Auditions not later than November 15, 2018 and informs the participants of the competition via the Competition website and by e-mail.
- Following the results of the Preliminary Auditions the jury will select 24 participants (8 in each age group) who will advance to the Competition Auditions.
- The order of performances in the Competition Auditions will be determined by a draw and adhered to throughout the whole third stage of the Competition. The draw will be held on March 26, 2019 in presence of all the competitors.
- The Competition Auditions will consist of a Recital Round followed by a Final Round; it will take place at the Moscow International Performing Arts Centre from March 27 to 31, 2017 and will be open to the public. After the Recital Round 3 competitors in each age group will proceed to the Final Round.
If several competitors are placed equally after the voting, the chairman of the Jury has the right to admit a fourth finalist.
- The results and Jury’s votes of each contestant during the Competition auditions will be published every day on the Competition website and in social media.
- All works must be performed by heart throughout all three stages of the Competition.
- The Competition will receive widespread media coverage and all performances will be broadcast live on the Competition website.
- All laureates of the Competition agree to take part for no further fee in the Prize Winner’s Gala Concert on April 1, 2017.
COMPETITION JURY
The jury will consist of internationally recognized musicians and music industry representatives. The votes of the jury members will be published after each stage of the Competition. The scores of the semi-finalists admitted to the final round of the Competition will be published immediately after the final round, so as not to affect the competitors during their performances in the final round.
The jury’s decision is final and cannot be revised.
The jury has the right to:
- Divide prizes and Grand Prix of the Competition between participants.
- Award special prizes and diplomas.
A jury member who has familiar ties or is the teacher of any participant, has no right to vote for that competitor.
During the voting at the Recital Round, when a jury member does not have the right to vote, instead of this jury member’s vote, the competitor receives an average score from the evaluations of all other jury members.
During the voting at the Final Round, if a jury member is a relative or a teacher of the participant, he does not take part in the voting for any of the finalists.
PRIZES AND AWARDS
Junior group
“Discovery” Prize 200,000 rubles
Two prizes for finalists 50,000 rubles each
Middle group
“Achievement” prize 300,000 rubles
Two prizes for finalists 50,000 rubles each
Senior group
“Grand-Prix” 500,000 rubles
Two prizes for finalists 100,000 rubles each
Three special awards of the amount of 50,000 rubles are established for teachers of the winners in all the age groups.
The jury members, partners and sponsors of the Competition will establish other special prizes and awards which will be announced additionally.
The participants not admitted the Final Round will receive honorary diplomas. Each participant of the Preliminary Auditions (the second stage of the competition) will receive the certificate of participation.
Payment of prizes will be made by the Organizer by means of bank wire into bank accounts of the winners and finalists of the Competition or their legal representatives (parents, guardians) with deduction of tax in accordance with the Russian legislation.
FINANCIAL CONDITIONS
The Organizing Committee covers the the following expenses of all the participants admitted to the Competition Auditions and their accompanying persons (one per each participant):
– airfare or train ticket to and from Moscow;
– ground transportation to and from airport/railway station;
– meals and hotel accommodation for the period from March 26, 2017 to April 01, 2017
The participants will take care of their Russian entrance visas and other documents required to enter the Russian Federation themselves on the basis of the invitation received from the Organizing Committee.
Repertoire requirements
Junior group
Video Screening (maximum 15 minutes)
- A polyphonic work by J.S. Bach.
- A virtuoso etude.
- Free program.
Preliminary Audition (maximum 20 minutes)
- The first movement of a classical sonata to choose from sonatas by W.A. Mozart.
J. Haydn, C.Ph.E. Bach or L. van Beethoven. - Two études of free choice.
- Free program.
Competition Auditions
Recital Round (maximum 25 minutes)
- Free program.
It is not allowed to perform the works presented at the Video Screening and Preliminary Auditions (with the exception of the classical sonata).
Final Round
A complete piano concerto of participant´s choice to be performed with the symphony orchestra.
Middle group
Video Screening (maximum 20 minutes)
- A polyphonic work by J.S. Bach.
- A virtuoso étude by F. Chopin.
- Free program.
Preliminary Auditions (maximum 20 minutes)
- A classical sonata to choose from works by W.A. Mozart. J. Haydn, C.Ph.E. Bach or L. van Beethoven, D. Scarlatti, A. Soler. It is allowed to perform the first movement or the complete Sonata.
When choosing sonatas by D. Scarlatti or A. Soler, it is required to perform at least two sonatas.
- Two études of participant’s choice, including at least one by F. Chopin.
- Free program.
Competition Auditions
Recital Round (maximum 35 minutes)
- Free program. It is not allowed to perform the works presented at the Video Screening and Preliminary Auditions (with the excerption of the classical sonata).
- Special assignment: “Listen to the future.” The competitor must perform a work or a group of works reflecting his vision of the possible direction classical music and ways of its performance could take in the future. It is allowed to involve other musicians (the number of performers on stage is not limited), as well as to use special technical means to fulfill the assignment. The duration of this performance should not exceed 10 minutes.
Final Round
A complete piano concerto of participant´s choice to be performed with the symphony orchestra.
Senior group
Video Screening (maximum 20 minutes)
- A polyphonic work by J.S. Bach.
- A virtuoso étude by F. Chopin.
- Free program.
Preliminary Auditions (maximum 20 minutes)
- A classical sonata to choose from works by W.A. Mozart. J. Haydn, C.Ph.E. Bach or L. van Beethoven, D. Scarlatti, A. Soler. It is allowed to perform the first movement or the complete Sonata.
When choosing sonatas by D. Scarlatti or A. Soler, it is required to perform at least two sonatas.
- A virtuoso study by F. Liszt.
4 A study of participant´s choice.
- Free program.
It is not allowed to repeat the works, performed at the Video Screening.
Competition Auditions
Recital Round (maximum 45 minutes)
- Free program. It is not allowed to perform the works presented at the Video Screening and Preliminary Auditions (with the excerption of the classical sonata.
- Special assignment: “Listen to the future.” The competitor must perform a work or a group of works reflecting his vision of the possible direction classical music and ways of its performance could take in the future. It is allowed to involve other musicians (the number of performers on stage is not limited), as well as to use special technical means to fulfill the assignment. The duration of this performance should not exceed 15 minutes.
Final Round
A complete piano concerto of participant´s choice to be performed with the symphony orchestra.
